The Bush Stone Curlew
A critically endangered bird throughout many area’s in Australia, The town in which I live seems to be an exception, we have 6-7 pairs in the district. Predation and Habitat loss are the main reasons for the declining population. A nocturnal bird that is capable of flight but rarely flies, when threatened the Bush Stone Curlew will freeze and try to avoid detection by blending in with their environment. Chicks cannot fly until they are 9 weeks old and may stay with the parents until the next breeding season begins. Endemic to Australia.
